Was
at an interesting evening on 13th May with Maajid Nawaz and Amin
Hashwani who spoke eloquently on Civil Society, Extremism and
Democracy. Hashwani said, “Things will not change until we will change
them.” On the occasion, Nawaz spoke about how democratic culture,
pluralism and separation of religion and politics were antidote to
religious extremism plaguing Pakistani society. Maajid shared his
personal story, highlighting how extremist organizations radicalize
young Muslims by using a meta-narrative based on a distorted and highly
politicized interpretation of Islam.
